Child protection

Child Protection Goal:

Reduce the number of Australian children experiencing abuse from 54,621 per year to 25,000 per year.

Reality:

The number of substantiated cases of child abuse in 2008/09 was 54,621 (A).

The four main types of abuse are physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect (A).

When the above has been achieved, a new goal of reducing the number down to 12,000 will be added.

Things to-do:

  1. Introduce a case load ceiling of 8 for all child protection workers, where one child equals one case

If you have practical suggestions/knowledge/experience that could help to reduce the above figure please contact us. What are the most successful programs/actions in the world that have helped to reduce those four areas of abuse?
